The night before last, Hacken Lee was present at the Gong Yik Kam (Community Chest) Charity Show. A few days ago he was a guest at Sammi Cheng's concert and enjoyed her final song, admitting he was moved by it. Something embarassing also happened. He mistook female mainland singer Han Hong for Brenda Lo. He said "I've been diagnosed with 'mistaking other people syndrome'. This illness has been with me for 10 years and my colleagues already know that I frequently mistake people. At first I greeted Han Hong in Cantonese and felt that it was strange. If Han Hong hasn't left HK yet, hopefully she'll see this report and forgive me!"
Hacken said that in the past Theresa Lee took on the job to perform as guest for his 10 concerts but unfortunately later when he bumped into her on the street he could not recognize her. When asked whether he would be able to recognise his wife, he replied "At the moment it doesn't matter if I can recognize them or not, I'll greet them first. I'm getting old, I might need to improve my eyesight with blueberries."
[haha, it's ok, hacken, lots of ppl R like u, sometimes don't recognize ppl. you're not old!! lol. -kate]

Yesterday Hacken and Cheung Tak Lan rehearsed for the Community Chest Fundraising Show. They will sing three songs together, including Alan's "Who will change", "Love is warm inside the heart" and "Sentimental Heart". Hacken joked that previously Andy Lau had sung "Sentimental Heart", and now it was his turn. During the performance there will be a rising platform, and they are a bit nervous. Hacken said that previously he had been caught, as he hadn't attended rehearsals for an awards ceremony and didn't expect there to be fireworks happening, so he was unprepared for them. His pet peeves are confetti and polystyrene foam (AKA styrofoam. i think he means fake snow make of small styrofoam bits), as he feels they affect a singer's performance when they blow into her/his mouth!
Once Hacken asked his assistant to hold up the lyrics on a big board for him, but when he sang to that part of the song, his assistant still did not appear. All he could do was wave at the audience. He once again mentioned Alan, saying that "When Alan forgets his lyrics, he turns his mic to the audience! The big boards with lyrics were made for him...but now even he's changed to use the plasma TVs!"

Hacken Lee, Dodo Cheng, Bosco Wong, etc. at a press conference for the Community Chest Fundraising Show
May 22, 2007
On the 22nd of May, Dodo Cheng, Nat Chan, Susanna Kwan, Hacken Lee, Bosco Wong, Fala Chen, Raymond Cho, Vincy, etc appeared at a public welfare/commonwealth fund (pretty sure it's te "kong yik cum" = Community Chest show) press event. The press event was held to publicize arrangements about the fund. HK singer Hacken Lee attended the event, encouraging the public to donate generously, helping out for the better good. He performed at the event, helping also to collect donations.

Hacken hurries home to be with "pregnant wife"
《香 港之最中西區》 was recorded last night, with singers such as Jade Kwan, Eric Suen and Hacken Lee appearing, as well as actors such as Anne Heung, Nancy Wu and Raymond Cho. With reports that Hacken is soon to become a father, he was the media's focal point. At yesterday's rehearsal in the afternoon, Hacken went home immediately after rehearsals finished. When asked, he said he was going home to be with his wife, and said he should spend more time with her. When asked about whether he was about to become a father, Hacken said that like his new song "Where have the flowers gone", he would not reply to the question, and reporters should find his new PR manager Alan Tam. Reporters then pointed out his voice was a bit raspy, and asked if he was sick, and should he be careful about passing it on to Emily who might be pregnant? Hacken sighed and said reporters should stop dragging all the topics together, asking them to please change topics!
He said lately he was busy recording, and this time he had to sit to record, as Eric Kwok didn't want his songs too have too much "daan tin" (the field of energy inside each person).

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of HK returning to China, RTHK and CCTV have decided to organise a "Shenzhen-HK youth evening gathering" on 1st July at Shenzhen's Window of the World. Yesterday a media conference was held and public announcements were made regarding the event's activities. RTHK's Lee Chai Tong indicated at the event, all HK singers that took part in performing "After returning for 10 years, there's still You" themesong will all attend the party. At the time, Andy Lau and Yundi Lee will perform together. And there will be lot's of mainland performances. The venue can hold an audience up to 6000-7000 people.
Date of birth is predicted to be June/July
Alan Tam and Hacken Lee both attended the media conference. Hacken was once again chased about whether or not he can announce his wife's pregnancy, and he joked that the date of birth is predicted to be June/July. He is adament that he is talking about his new album, not having a baby. Alan says that it was only a few days ago that he ate dinner with the husband and wife and was asked whether he felt Emily's figure had changed. Alan said that he was late there and had to leave early so that Emily was seated the entire time and he couldn't tell.
Alan had publicly told Hacken to check whether his wife was pregnant by using frogs. When the two met, Hacken asked Alan how to use frogs to test for pregnancy and pointed out that he only knew how to use iceblocks. Alan explained "In the past, when using frogs, if the frog called out then that was the indication that there was a pregnancy." Reporters asked Hacken if he could announce the good news. He said that as it was the return of HK's big day, then everyone shouldn't go off topic. When reporters suggested that because it was a big day then there should be a new album to celebrate with, Hacken exclaimed that the date of birth was to be June/July and insisted that he was referring to his new album. Reporters also pointed out that Hacken has gained weight recently but Hacken said that he was busy with his new album and did not gain weight. Alan couldn't help but laugh that Hacken wasn't answering the questions that were being asked.
Alan exposes Hacken's Freudian slip
Hacken admitted that he understood everyone was caring for him and everyday he would see little dogs near his place, giving him a sense of security. When it reached the public, Hacken revealed that a lot of people were asking about the progress of his new album and even Liza Wang has asked a few times whether his new album would be out soon. Alan joked and asked Hacken whether the new album will be cute and if it would have hands or feet. Hacken said that as long as Liza was happy, he would thank everyone for caring and when the new album was ready for release, he would publicly announce it to the world. He doesn't think he will make June, so it will probably hit the streets in July. Recently has his wife been afraid of going outside? Hacken said she wasn't. Alan revealed that a few days earlier he had dinner with the couple and when asked about Emily's figure, he was smart and said that on the night he was late there and had to leave early. This meant that he only saw Emily sitting down and could not see her figure. Has he felt that Emily's eating habits have changed? He said he didn't notice anything special and Hacken added "These days it's different. There's nothing that's "forbidden". Alan exposed that Hacken had made a definate Freudian slip.
[hahaha! "everyday he would see little dogs near his place, giving him a sense of security."!! those pesky reporters always stalking him & emily!! :(
well, now that he accidentally said that, every1 knows for sure now. though, be4, every1 could already guess she really is pregnant f/what alan/hacken said! -kate]

Hacken was forced by reporters about news that he was going to be a father. He bowed and politely asked everyone to let him off.

TVB held its 2007 JSG Presentation - First quarter on Sunday, 29th April. Everyone got their share of their awards (this sounds a little sarcastic in the article -> Like insinuating that the presentation was just for the artistes to get a slice of the pie). There was no sense of animosity at all at TVB City. Instead, the atmosphere was filled with care and warmth.
With recent rumours that Emily Lo is pregnant, Hacken was being forced by the media to confirm this the whole night. Hacken diverted the attention surrounding his wife's pregnancy towards his new CD, slated to be released in June or July. Baby becomes CD, he just refuses to admit the fact as he is afraid that the baby will be petty.
(I think Hacken is refusing to confirm the rumours as there is a belief that one should not announce or make a big fuss about having a baby before the first 3 mths is over because that is the period where it is easiest to get a miscarriage. So they are afraid that the baby will be 'petty' and something bad may happen. -Gillian)
Singer Kay who is due to deliver in July, was accompanied by her manager to receive her award. However, he refused to let Kay answer any questions with regards to the gender of her child or the mode of delivery. Even when taking photos, he forced reporters into a corner as he only insisted that they take front view shots of her.

[agree w/Gillian...lots of fans and i think he's waiting till after 3 months 2 announce, for all those reasons. well, not necessarily means he's superstitious, it makes sense realistically, too, cuz u can often have miscarriages during this time...wow, wish they would leave him alone about this! he'll announce it when he's ready! maybe around the same time his cd comes out, he'll announce! but that won't be until around July, probably!! yeah, sometimes they joke that every1 gets awards at tvb awards show, even those that don't deserve it.... -kate]

Before she steps down, she doesn’t feel any stress competing for Miss Universe
One year has passed by in the blink of an eye. In April, Emily Lo will be representing Hong Kong in the Miss Universe competition held in Mexico. After that, it will soon be time for her to pass the baton - passing on the title of Miss Hong Kong to the next lady to be crowned.
“Aye! This busy year has really passed very fast! I now truly realize what it means by “Ri Yue Ru Suo” (the days are nights passing very fast).”
Laughing at her, “Are you unwilling to step down?”
“No, it’s not that I am unwilling to do so. Every girl who wins the title will take on a similar path. I only wish that I can continue to shine after stepping down.” These were her heartfelt words.
Emily once announced that since achieving her title of Miss Hong Kong, the greatest reward is getting to know “God Brother” Hacken Lee. Seems like Emily does not remember rumours about her at heart and is generous.
Towards this, she says “I treat myself sincerely, really. I’m not afraid of any rumours. If they aren’t real, there’s no need for me to be calculative and avoid them.”
Just like Hacken Lee being her good friend, she will not end their friendship because there were rumours that they are going steady.
That’s why she admires the pair Sally Yip and George Lam.
“If you want to talk about stress, Sally Yip is facing much more of it. After all, George Lam is married!”
However, Sally and George still continue to be friends. Emily Lo believes that the innocent are free from guilt.
“Maybe Sally and George adopt the western thinking so they don’t mind what others have to say about them.”
Emily also agrees that to end a hard to come by friendship due to what others say is a pity.
“It is hard to find a friend who has chemistry with you, especially a ‘Male Partner who truly understands you’ that Sally Yip mentioned!”
Speaking about work on her trip in April, she says “I’ve sought my company’s advice, I will most likely be buying souvenirs which represent China for the organization and other contestants.”
Though most Hong Kong contestants do not win the competition when they go overseas, Emily feels that this should not be the reason for not putting in effort.
“On the other hand, I’m excited about the competition and I don’t feel any stress!”
She says she will do her best for the competition, but it doesn’t just boil down to getting an award or not.
“This is the last beauty pageant competition I’m competing in before I step down. I hope to do my best and have more great memories.”

[wow, must have been really stressful for them 2 try to keep their relationship secret! emily seems like a nice, down-to-earth person. =) -kate]

Nat Chan's Olympics show was recording the night before last and guests included Shawn Yue, Monica Chan, Stephanie Cheng, Hins Cheung, Ivana Wong and Lawrence Cheng. Shawn Yue has alwys played basketball and he was full of confidence at the beginning of the show, and winning prizes by shooting baskets would be no hard task. All the other guests were relying on him to win and he failed 3 times. The first 2 times he only managed to get 1 basket out of 5 shots and so missed out on the prize. Nat Chan decided to loosen up the rules a bit and for Shawn's third and final chance, he was allowed to take a few steps forward. In the end he managed to get 3 baskets out of 5 shots, winning him and the other guests $5000 in prize money. No one left empty handed.
That night, Nat's other half Cecilia Wong was also watching the show. As for her birthday party earlier, it was said that Hacken and Emily were resting due to Emily's pregnancy and both declined the invitation. Reporters asked Cecilia for evidence and initially she replied "You go ask them!" but after more interrogation, she said "Of course I'm happy! (Do you know when the baby is due?) That I don't know! We haven't seen each other recently but we have talked over the phone. Her health is good. (Will you become the child's godmother?) No! I already have enough! (Have you prepared the baby's present yet?) When they got married I already gave them a big present! We should wait until they announce it themselves!"
On another note, Monica Chan reveals that she has been very unhappy recently. Of her 4 beloved dogs, two have passed away within a week of each other causing her to be very upset. It has also made her treasure the time she spends with her family. And so hearing that her father wanted to go to Jiu Zhai Gou for holidays, she planned to go with her whole family on vacation.
(wow, it's really true!! congrats to hacken & emily!!!!!! ~_~ -kate)

Rumours are abounding that Hacken is about to be a father, but he has not replied officially to these rumors. He's also expressed that the first person to know will be Alan if the news is trie. Yesterday Alan appeared at a journalist conference for RTHK's "Super Trader", and was chased by the reporters for a comment on Hacken's rumours. Alan immediately rang Hacken to ask, and after hanging up, he didnt say anything, only laughed. After he accidentally said "Maybe in his house its taboo to talk about this!"...after which he realized he'd said the wrong thing, and could only laugh.
Passing the ball to Alan
Alan, Nancy Sit and Priscillia Ku all attended the press conference for RTHK's new program "Super Trader", where they inducted the HK Trade Representative. Alan wore green in the appearance, joking he should give a big frog to Hacken: "Some people say frogs can test urine, if you want to know if Hacken is about to be a dad, you should go to his house and hear if there's a frog croaking"
Reporters said Hacken had told them the first person he would tell was Alan, and Alan replied he's just returned from Singapore and only found out reading reports, but was still uncertain at the moment. Reporters asked him to call Hacken to find out, and Alan told his assistant to call. On the phone, Alan said: "Because of you I'm surrounded by reporters!! How is it?....you cant tell me?", after which he quickly hung up, keeping a small smile on his face, and didn't dare to say anything else much, only constantly laughing. Reporters asked him what Hacken said? Alan replied: "He said he succeeded...I thought he meant succeeding in becoming a father, but he said he suceeded in passing the ball (of reporter pestering) to me!!"
Not saying it aloud - but implying
Crying For You
Venue: Sai Kung Tunnel (a place where they have lots of garbage I think…)
People: Hacken Lee, Pauline Yeung (the lady that Hacken said before was his best friend’s girlfriend so he didn’t wooed her! Also the lady who won Miss HK before)
Camera: Chen Yi Long
Hacken Lee, who went as far as America to study for a short-term music course, has grown a moustache all over his face. This adds on a sense of maturity to his appearance. Crying For You is the first MV that Hacken is shooting after his trip back from America and he has invited Pauline Yeung to be the female lead.
As the venue is located around Sai Kung Tunnel, Hacken, Pauline, the crew and the reporters turned into food for the mosquitoes. Nobody felt good.
During the last scene of this MV, and also the most exciting part as this includes an explosion, everyone had to retreat by more than 30 meters. After the explosion, the crew had to extinguish the fire immediately. It’s a good thing that the whole MV was completed successfully.
When Hacken Lee returned to Hong Kong from America earlier, there was a huge change in his appearance. His hair has grown longer and he has a beard, a difference from his gentle style in the past. He feels that his original image has not changed much since he first entered the entertainment industry, and is tired of it.
This coincided with his trip to America for 9 months. As he need not face reporters and did not know many people there, he did not dress up frequently. Soon, his hair and beard grew longer, and he felt that it was interesting. Also, his image stylist felt that his new image suits his new album well. So, they might as well use this new “image”. However, after returning to Hong Kong, everyone had good and bad opinions about his new image.
For his trip to study music at America, Hacken has learnt a lot of things. Hacken is someone who can sing, no one doubts his ability to do so. But his teacher from America has corrected some of his flaws in singing, such as having too much vibration towards the ending of a line. The teacher told him that there’s nothing good in using vibrations blindly, it should be used at the appropriate time to better express the feeling of the song. Hacken agreed to his words too.
Releasing his new album this time, he has gathered what he had learnt in America. Hacken also says that this is one of the album that is closest to what he desires.
Appearance changes after returning from America
Hacken Lee, the moustachy guy
For all this time, Hacken Lee has given us the feeling that he is someone that is stable and careful with his words. However, the recent Hacken Lee has had a huge change in his appearance – he has grown a beard, long hair and his gestures have taken a 180 degrees change to become more relaxed and open. Seems like he has become more mature.
Hacken says that he did not intentionally created this new image. Earlier on, he had been living in America for more than a month. He need not attend programmes, put on make up, nor face the media neatly and has recovered the true spirits of a man. Such times lasted for more than a month, and one day when he looked into the mirror, wow, he has become a manly guy.
“Many people have asked me why I became like this? Actually, it’s because every night in America, I would watch the NBA matches. I feel that the blacks are cool, and are manly. If a forty year old me is still singing, I would certainly shave my head.”
(OMG I HOPE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – the shocking hianez, after translating this bit! I wonder if he remembers saying this…!)
“Frankly speaking, I belong to the group of singers who have a longer lifespan in the industry. I’m not the idol type; no one will buy my albums because of my appearance. My good fortunes lies in not being old, even if I wait for chances year after year and nothing comes about, I won’t find it harsh. Because what I have now, many people might not be able to get it in their lifetime. I’m someone who certainly knows how to be contented.”
Appealing to the masses
Towards the media, Hacken has always been very open. He is not like some artists who feels that gossip magazines are irritating.
“Magazines are like songs, they are comparable with each other. If the mass of people like love songs, I will sing it. If people like to see Anita Mui and Zhao Wen Zhuo go steady, the reporters will track them. The problem is, are artists the only people who will have underground relationships and patronize night clubs? Actually, many other people do such things too. Just because the artist is a public figure, everybody is interested to know.
However, after 2 or 3 months, I’m afraid not many will remember that Wan Zi Liang has visited a night club, and no one will mention Li Lili. People are forgetful, aren’t they?”
“In the past, I was always giving in to the radio broadcast stations. The people working there said I should sing fast songs, and I followed their opinion and changed my mind. Actually, I should be giving in to people who buy my albums instead. They’re my true bosses. There’s no use in giving in to promoters.”
Hong Kongers seizing the opportunity
In his eyes, Hong Kongers are good at seizing opportunities. Be it entertainment or investments, they always take things to be short-termed, they will never view how things might be 10 years later, and will never think of what the next generation wants the society to be like.
“The people today blame everything on the 1997 crisis. If there wasn’t such a crisis, things would still be the same. This includes me, towards work; I plan on an annual basis.”
Besides this, Hacken took the role of a senior and pointed out daringly the bad points of the leaders in Hong Kong’s singing industry. For example, towards Andy Lau, he said “I would certainly not do a whole cover album. Because no matter how well I do, I’m not Shirley Kwan.” As for Aaron Kwok, he said “I feel like singing ‘Why Did I Let You Go’, if I am the one to sing it, I would put in more of my heart and soul.” And also, towards Faye Wong, he said “Have you noticed, although everyone feels that her voice is great, her only accomplished song is ‘The Woman Who Is Easily Hurt’, is ‘Like Wind’, the one which everybody says is a love song.” As for Vivian Chow, he said “I often tell her, do you know how many newcomers you have ‘killed’? This few years, every female singer imitates you, and each of them end up failing.”
Though Hacken’s opinions aren’t exactly new, they’re quite unique. In the past, would he have said such things?
Caption of photo below: Hacken’s image has changed but not his love life. His long term girlfriend has always been with him.
